What is Periodontics?

Periodontics is the dental specialty focused on the care and maintenance of the tissues surrounding the tooth, including the gums and bone tissue.

These tissues, the bone and gums, are essential for providing stability and support to the teeth. That’s why they are our specialty at Periodent, because if they are not properly cared for, teeth can fall out and be lost.

Periodontics is also the specialty that deals with the disease known as “pyorrhea” or periodontal disease, which includes conditions such as gingivitis and periodontitis, affecting both the gums and bone.

But how can one identify if they are suffering from periodontal disease?

It’s not always obvious, which is why it’s crucial to visit a Periodontist, who will perform a thorough examination and assessment.

There are some signs and symptoms that can alert us to problems with our dental health, suggesting the need for a visit to a periodontics specialist.

To detect periodontal disease, ask yourself:

Do you frequently suffer from gum bleeding?

Do your gums look red or are swollen?

Do you experience pain or discomfort in your gums?

Do you see your gums receding, making your teeth appear longer?

Have you noticed a change in the position of your teeth or that they are separating?

Does food easily accumulate between your teeth?

Do you constantly have bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you might have a gum problem.

Remember, periodontal disease can be asymptomatic, especially in smokers, meaning you could have it without any obvious symptoms. For this reason, we advise you to schedule a diagnostic appointment with our team, specialized in Periodontics since 1999.
